Aspen ski resort
Aspen is probably the first place that would come to mind when talking about skiing in the US. Located in Colorado, Aspen is one of the most popular skiing destinations in the US, if not in the world. It is the home to a number of ski resorts that offer not only skiing but other snow sports as well. Thousands of people troop to Aspen each year and they are accommodated by the hotels in the area as well as by charming bed and breakfast inns. Located 215 miles from Colorado’s capital Denver and with an airport of its own, the Sardy Field, Aspen is a very accessible ski destination that caters to families ou to have a fun winter vacation and serious skaters alike.
The Aspen Ski Resort area has a four mountains that skiers could choose from and these offer above 4500 acres of terrain that is perfect for any winter sports that you might like aside from skiing. Ajax mountain, with its more than 700 acres of area available for skiing and its vertical drop of over 3200 feet is the mountain that is most frequented by more advanced skiers in Aspen. Next to Ajax, you could find the Aspen Highlands that offer ideal skiing terrains for intermediate skiers and even beginners. In the mountains that cover the Aspen Ski Resort, it is in Aspen Highlands that you could see a number of Olympic medalists. This seems to be the mountain in Aspen that they most favor.
The Aspen Ski Resort area will not be complete if it won’t have a smaller mountain that is mainly for beginners to skiing and this is where Buttermilk comes in. Smaller though in size and area compared to the rest of the mountains in Aspen, Buttermilk has the longest terrain park and was host of the ESPN Winter X Games. The largest mountain that is within the Aspen Ski Resort area is the Snowmass, with its over 3000 acres of terrain for skiing. With its large area, it is to be expected that Snowmass provides all sorts of skiing terrains that are ideal for advanced, intermediate or even beginning skiers.
Considered as the playground of the rich and famous, the attractions of Aspen does not only lie on their ski area. The ski town has greatly deviated from its past of being a sleepy mining town and has become a place where you will never have a dull moment. They have restaurants, shopping boutiques and bars that could occupy your time when you are not out skiing. Aspen is the place to be for skiing and lots of snow as well as fun and entertainment, as you will soon find out for yourself if you intend to come here.
